Glover Teixeira Tests Positive For COVID-19, UFC on ESPN+ 35 Main Event Scratched
The main event of UFC on ESPN+ 35 has been nixed due to Glover Teixeira’s testing positive for COVID-19. The UFC has confirmed to ESPN that Teixeira has tested positive for the virus, and that instead of trying to keep his opponent Thiago Santos on the show they have decided to reschedule the fight to the October 3rd fight card on Fight Island.
No new main event has been announced for next weekend’s show, which still has a co-main event scheduled at this time of Michelle Waterson vs. Angela Hill.
Teixeira told MMA Fighting that his main training parter for the fight, Alex Pereira, also tested positive and that they are quarantining together as they continue training for the rescheduled fight. He noted, “I only did the test because the UFC asked me to, I wasn’t feeling any symptoms. Actually, no one in the team had any symptoms. They tested everybody, and Alex and I were the only ones that came back positive. But they asked everyone to test again next week just to make sure.”
