Iuri Alcantara Doesn’t See A Lot of Benefit to His UFC 212 Fight

June 3, 2017 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Iuri Alcantara spoke with MMAjunkie for a new interview ahead of his fight with Brian Kelleher at UFC 212. The highlights are below:

On his fight with Kelleher: “I don’t choose my opponents. A lot of people thought I shouldn’t take this fight. Just like when I faced Frankie Saenz, Brian Kelleher also isn’t ranked. If I beat him, it won’t help me climb the rankings. So I’ll just look to have a good fight, beat him, and then ask for someone ranked above me.”

On changing his approach in the cage: “Today, I look to fight more intelligently. I enjoy striking, but we’ve been working a lot on the ground. Every time we hit the mat, I’ll look for a submission. I want to show the world that I’m a true black belt.”

On not studying his opponents too much: “I might watch tape on my opponent maybe once. I don’t like to watch too many videos. We can see both his weak and strong attributes. It’s going to be a good fight. I’ll be representing Brazil well.”
