Jack Marshman Wants to Bring the UFC to Wales

Jack Marshman spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Magnus Cedenblad at UFC Fight Night 99. The highlights are below:

On his arrival in the UFC: “I do feel like it was a little bit overdue. I’m 20-5, I’m probably one of the more experienced guys on the whole card to be honest. In (those 25 fights) I have fought legitimate guys. I’ve got plenty of former UFC guys on my roster, plenty of guys who went on to the UFC on my record. I know I’ve been at this level for a long time really. It was just that waiting game and it even got to the point where I wondered whether it was going to come. When it did it was just a massive weight off my shoulders and a massive release.”

On being matched up with Cedenblad: “I wanted someone who has had a few fights (in the UFC). Before I got signed, I watched the UFC every time it was on and I watched Magnus’ last fight with Garreth McLellan and even then I was thinking, ‘I would like to get in with one of those guys.’ I watch every middleweight on the card and that’s what I’m thinking in my head. I want to fight them all. When they offered me him, he’s on a four-fight winning streak in the UFC, so when I come in and put in an awesome performance people are just going to realize what level I’m at. That’s why I’m looking forward to it, that’s the type of fights I want.”

On wanting to fight in Wales: “I’m probably more excited about (bringing UFC to Wales than fighting for the title). I want to work my way up the ranks and I just want to fight the best people and I want to fight the people I’ve been watching for years. That’s the type of guy I am, but I just really, really want to bring a show to Wales. We’re the forgotten nation. You got Ireland, England and Scotland, they’ve all had cards and Wales in bang in the middle of them and they’ve not had a card in Wales yet. The local support, wait until you see. When I got signed the amount of support that came through social media and stuff, it just went absolutely mental. People I don’t know were going mental because a Welsh guy was in the UFC and they was over the moon with that. If they get a couple more signed and they bring a card to Wales, I think it would sell out automatically. That’s what I want to do.”
