Mackenzie Dern Says Flyweight Move Will Be a Surprise For Her Too
Mackenzie Dern spoke with MMAjunkie about moving to flyweight ahead of her fight with Mandy Polk at Legacy Fighting Alliance 24. The highlights are below:
On how she thinks she’ll do in the new weight class: “It’s hard for me to say what I’m going to improve on now. But I think just that it’s a new (weight class), that’s going to be a good test for me – if I try to stay at 125, or if I try to do the sacrifice to go back to 115. It’s going to be a surprise for me, too, how I feel my opponent is – if I feel she’s stronger than me, or if I feel good here. It’s going to be a surprise for me, just like everyone else.”
On her fight with Polk: “From what I know about her, she’s a wrestler. I’m a jiu-jitsu girl, so for me to be on the ground is OK. I imagine she probably wants to be on top and ground-and-pound.”
