Vicente Luque Discusses His Fourth Straight Win at UFC 205

Speaking to reporters in a post-fight media scrum (via MMAjunkie), UFC fighter Vicente Luque discussed his win at UFC 205. Below are some highlights.

Luque on being asked to fight Donald Cerrone: “I was asked to fight (Cerrone), and I definitely accepted it at the moment. Even Donald Cerrone came to talk to me – ‘Hey, I tried to make the fight happen, but the UFC later thought it was better for it not to happen.’ Because somebody would be out of an opponent, so I think that would be kind of not fair for the other guys that had their fights.”

On his UFC tenure: “I think things have to be the way they’re going to be. I wanted to be in this card before I even knew I was going to be called, and it appeared. So if the fight with Cerrone were to happen now, it would happen. Maybe it wasn’t the time for it. I’m sure it’s going to happen later on. But if they make that happen whenever, I’m the guy for that fight too. I love Cerrone’s style, and I think fighting against each other – we’re both strikers, and it would definitely be a great fight for the fans.”

On getting four wins in a row: “(With) four wins and four finishes, I think I deserve a top-15 (opponent). Not only do I want a top-15, but I think I deserve it now. I asked for that in my last fight, this fight appeared, and I knew I had to take that opportunity. And now I definitely think I deserve a top-15. Whoever, whenever, wherever, I’m ready. I’m ready to go, and I’m here to go for that title, so I want to fight the toughest guys that I can fight.”

Luque on who he would fight next: “I would fight anybody. But if I were going to pick, I’d pick any striker – any striker in the top-15. I’m a striker, so I love to go out there and trade punches and kicks, and I think the fans want to see that, so any striker would be my pick.”
