Alex Trebek Announces He Has Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer
Longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek has announced that he has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. Trebek posted a video to the Jeopardy! YouTube channel announcing that he has been diagnosed with the disease. Trebek noted that “Normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging. But I’m gonna fight this. And I’m gonna keep working. And with the loving support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease.”
TMZ reports that Trebek, who is an icon of television for his thirty-five year run (and counting) on the game show, just learned about the diagnosis and will immediately begin chemotherapy. He has no plans to retire and will continue working on the show, which as he notes in the video he has three years left on.
Trebek took a medical leave in 2018 due to surgery to remove blood clots in his brain after a fall, and suffered mild heart attacks in 2007 and 2012. Jeopardy! has yet to air any episodes featuring a guest host.
On behalf of 411, our best wishes to Trebek and his family and our sincerest hopes for a full victory against his cancer.
