Amazon has confirmed the timeframe of the setting for their Lord of Rings series. As IndieWire notes, the Twitter account for the upcoming series has been progressively filling in a map of Middle-Earth, which ultimately revealed the island of Númenor. As LOTR fans will likely known, Númenor is a lost land in the Third Age (where the books are set), having been destroyed thousands of years ago.

The tweet also made it clear that the Second Age will be the timeframe of the show. That still contains several potential eras , as the second age lasted 3,441 years. However, it is worth noting that the Second Age featured the first defeat of Sauron as shown in the prologue of the films.

As of now, there is no casting news for the show and a productioin start date isn’t yet set.
