Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Hannah John-Kamen to Star In Red Sonja
Joey Soloway’s Red Sonja adaptation has cast its titular role with Ant-Man and the Wasp alum Hannah John-Kamen. Variety reports that John-Kamen, who played Ghost in the MCU film, will play Red Sonja in the upcoming film based on the Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith-created comic book character.
Soloway, who co-wrote the script with Tasha Huo and will direct, said of John-Kamen’s casting, “Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja. Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”
The film is being produced through Millennium Media and has been struggling to get made for years. Bryan Singer was set to direct at one point but was dropped from the movie after allegations of sexual assault resurfaced against him.
The character has been seen on film before in a 1985 film centered on her and starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The character first appeared in Marvel’s Conan the Barbarian series in 1973 but quickly drew in popularity. She now appears in the pages of Dynamite Entertainment comics.
