Black Canary Film Starring Jurnee Smollett In The Works at HBO Max

Jurnee Smollett’s run as Black Canary didn’t end at Birds of Prey, as a solo film is under development for HBO Max. Cinelinx reports that the Black Canary film is being written by Misha Green (Lovecraft Country) and will see Smollett reprise her role as Dinah Lance.

Smollett has since confirmed the news, writing on Twitter:

“Guess the Canary is out of the cage! So excited to finally embark on this adventure with my creative soul sis @MishaGreen. #blackcanary #dinahlance #lettttssssssgoooooo ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!”

Smollett worked with Green on HBO’s Lovecraft Country, where she co-starred as Letitia “Leti” Lewis. Sue Kroll will produce the film via her Kroll & Co. Entertainment banner.
