Cathy Yan Says Patty Jenkins Gave Her Advice For Birds of Prey

Cathy Yan is making her debut in terms of directing a blockbuster on Birds of Prey, and she said she got some advice from Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins. Yan spoke with Variety for a new interview and talked about how she had plenty of support from Warner Bros. and DC Films for her R-rated comic book film, but still felt like she wanted some advice from her fellow DC director and called her up.

“I had such institutional support from the get go,” Yan said. “But at the same time, every day, I remember being very concerned about, like, I’ve never done this before. I actually called up Patty Jenkins during prep and I’m like, ‘What am I doing?’ She told me, ‘You’ve got to remember that no one knows this movie as much as you. That’s what makes you the director.’ And that was really, really helpful.”

The ensemble film is set to open on February 7th and stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smolett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Ewan McGregor, and Ella Jay Basco.
