Chadwick Boseman What If...? Black Panther

Chadwick Boseman’s final appearances as Black Panther will appear in the animated What If…? series, and it’s been confirmed he will appear in multiple episodes. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke with Emmy Magazine and confirmed that Boseman, who passed away in late August, voiced T’challa for several episodes.

“There are all sorts of stories we couldn’t explore through live-action,” Feige said (per JoBlo). “Chadwick came in about four times and recorded numerous episodes. In hindsight, it’s very moving.”

The series is based on the Marvel comic book series and imagines what would have happened if events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe had played out differently. The trailer, released during Disney’s Investor Day 2020 presentation, includes scenes of T’challa being picked up by the Ravagers instead of Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill.

The appearances will be Boseman’s last in the role. Marvel recently confirmed that they would not be using a digital double of Boseman for any live-action films. The actor’s final live-action role just released in Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, which even before his passing had earned him a lot of buzz for a potential Oscar nomination.

What If…? will arrive in late 2021.
