Chadwick Boseman’s Brother Says He’d Want Black Panther Recast
Marvel has chosen not to recast Black Panther following Chadwick Boseman’s passing, but his brother says Boseman would want the role recast. Marvel stated following Boseman’s passing of colon cancer in August of 2020 that they would neither recast the role nor use digital doubles to make T’Challa appear in Black Panther 2. Speaking with TMZ, Boseman’s brother Derrick said that Boseman would want the character to continue in the MCU.
Derrick Boseman said that Chadwick “thought T’Challa was bigger than just himself” (per JoBlo) and that he “knew the power of the character, and the positive influence it carries.” Derrick noted that Chadwick never overtly said that he thought the character should be recast, but is sure that he would have wanted the character to continue being portrayed.
There is a petition currently ongoing to recast the role, noting:
”#RecastTChalla is not a call to replace Chadwick Boseman. (No one could ever do that.) It is not asking for an immediate replacement either. Nor is this calling for the prevention of other characters to take up the mantle of Black Panther like Shuri or anyone else. This petition is merely asking to continue the portrayal of T’Challa in the MCU. #RecastTChalla is a call to fulfill the role that Chadwick Boseman worked so hard for the world to see.”
In the meantime, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to hit theaters on November 11th, 2022.
