Christopher McQuarrie Returning to Direct Next Two Mission: Impossible Films

Christopher McQuarrie is making his run as the director of the Mission: Impossible two films longer. Variety reports that McQuarrie, who directed Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible – Fallout, has signed on to direct the next two films.
The site reports that the plan is to have McQuarrie direct the films in quick succession, with the seventh film to arrive in 2021 and the eighth in 2022. Tom Cruise is expected to return along with Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson. McQuarrie has been a hot property since Fallout became a critical and commercial smash, with several studios trying to enlist him. However, he decided to stick with the franchise and Tom Cruise, who he has directed in Jack Reacher as well as the M:I films. He also wrote Cruise’s 2008 World War II thriller Valkyrie.
McQuarrie will write the two sequels as well, having written both Rogue Nation and Fallout. He also wrote the script for Cruise’s Top Gun sequel which will release next year.
