Deadline reports that Christopher Meloni is set to reprise his role of Elliot Stabler from Law & Order: SVU for an upcoming spinoff from Dick Wolf. The untitled drama has been given a thirteen-episode order, and is part of a five-year, nine-figure, multi-platform first look deal Wolf signed with Universal Television last month.

Wolf will executive produce with Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski for Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV. Matt Olmstead (Chicago PD) is being considered as the showrunner. The new series is set in New York and features Stabler leading an organized crime unit for the NYPD. Since it’s set in the same city as SVU, it’s possible that Stabler could reunite with Olivia Benson at some point.

Meloni starred in SVU opposite Mariska Hartigay for twelve seasons, which got Meloni an Emmy nomination in 2006. Meloni left at the end of season twelve and so Stabler was written out, abruptly quitting his job.
