Colin Farrell is playing the Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and he teased how much he’ll be in the film in a new interview. Farrell was a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and noted that his role will be a supporting one, and not a primary character.

“I’m only in it for five or six scenes, so I can’t wait to see the film ’cause it won’t be ruined by my presence,” Farrell said (per JoBlo). “It’s a freebie for me. I’ll get a little uncomfortable for the fucking nine minutes I have and then the rest I cannot wait to see how [Reeves] brought this world to life.”

Farrell also talked about the challenges that the film had to navigate as it filmed during the pandemic, saying, “Obviously, COVID began to grip the world while we were shooting and I left London in March [2020] and we were still down for four or five months. And then we went back and then obviously Robert [Pattinson] got sick and that was like, ‘F**king Batman has COVID?'”

The film stars Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. Written and directed by Reeves, the film is said to be a more noir-flavored, character-driven take focusing on a younger Batman. It is set for release on March 4th, 2022.
