The new clip features the SEGA mascot (Ben Schwartz) asking Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) for help in his current predicament. After admitting what happened to Sonic is his fault, Tom reluctantly agrees to help. The clip also offers a look at the Blue Blur’s updated, revised CG design after fans soundly rejected his earlier look for his cinematic debut.
The film is set to release on February 14, 2020 — pushed out from November due to the hefty character redesign — and stars James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. It was directed by Jeff Fowler from a script by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. The synopsis reads:
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
