The two plans for spinoffs of 24 that FOX had are D.O.A., according to the network’s president. Michael Thorn spoke with TV Line and confirmed that the two spinoff pitches that were in early development are dead. One of them would have followed a younger version of Keifer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer, while the other was a legal drama about the wrongful execution of a death row inmate that used the original show’s real-time format.

“We had been circling two ideas for 24 spinoffs and those ideas are not moving forward,” Thorn said. “But we’re constantly looking at other opportunities to keep the title resonant, for us and the fans.”

FOX has been trying to find ways to bring the popular show back in some form after 24: Live Another Day closed out Jack Bauer’s story. 24: Legacy was the first attempt to make it to air, starring Corey Hawkins as war hero Eric Carter working with CTU to stop a terrorist attack. 24: Legacy lasted one season, airing from February to April of 2017.

Thorn said that the network will continue to look at ways to bring the franchise to life, saying, “It’s one of the most important titles at our network, so whatever we do with it we want it to fell as relevant and as explosive as the original — and that’s hard. We’re all committed to finding another version of it, but only when it’s right.”
