Frank Grillo Says The Purge 6 Is Still Being Worked On
Frank Grillo starred in two of the Purge films, and he says his proposed return in a sixth film for the franchise is still in the works. Grillo spoke with Empire Magazine for a new interview and confirmed that he and James DeMonaco are still trying to get the film made, which would see him reprise his role of Leo Barnes from The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year.
“I had an idea in my head about how I should look, and how I’m gonna hold my guns,” Grillo said. “All that stuff I planned out. That solidified me as a guy who could carry a mid-level action movie. And the director, James DeMonaco, changed my life. [I’ve] got one more left. James has the script. It focuses on the Leo Barnes character, and he wants to direct it. We’re working with Universal to see if we can pull this off before I’m in the old folks’ home.”
The First Purge was intended to be the final entry in the franchise, but DeMonaco said in June of last year that he had an idea for one more film about Leo. At the time, he noted:
“Dude, my Purge 6 idea is all about Frank. It’s all about the Leo character. Without giving anything away, I think he’s off on his own, but he’s going to be called back into action, hopefully on Purge 6, if we’re lucky enough to do it. I hope that Leo comes back. That’s the goal. When I came up with Purge 6, he was the center of the idea. I’m hoping that we get to do that with him.”
