HBO Max Developing IT Prequel Series Welcome to Derry

HBO Max is going into Pennywise’s past, developing an IT prequel series. Variety reports that the streaming platform is developing Welcome to Derry, a prequel to the Andy Muschietti-directed IT films that will begin in the 1960s in the events leading up to the first film.

According to the report, Muschietti will executive produce Welcome to Derry with Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs. The three are said to have come up with the story for the the series, which will reportedly include the origin story of Pennywise. Andy Muschietti will direct the first episode, should the project go to series, and a writer’s room has opened up.

HBO Max has been busy developing properties, including several such as the upcoming The Penguin which are being built out from existing IPs.
