In The Heights Star Melissa Barrera Joins Scream 5 In Key Role

The upcoming Scream 5 has added another major cast member in Melissa Barrera. Deadline reports that Barrera, who is a star in the yet-to-be-released adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights, has been signed to play a “key role” in the upcoming sequel. Details on her role have yet to be made available.

Barrera joins franchise stars Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey Riley) as confirmed cast members for the film. Neve Campbell is in talks to return as Sidney Prescott. The film will film later this fall, with plans to wrap production by the end of the year. More casting is underway.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence (Ready or Not) are directing the film from a scrupt by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Franchise creator Kevin Williamson is executive producing alongside Radio Silence’s Chad Villella. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are producing.
