Yes, I know it’s a bit of downer that this entire column will be a SPOILER since most of you reading haven’t seen Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage yet but I’ve seen the post-credit scene being discussed all over social media and I want to jump into it.

Again. If you haven’t seen Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage, go away! SPOILERS here after.

OK, if you’re still here you either have seen it or don’t care about spoilers.

Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage is here and let’s just say it has caused a great disturbance in the force. The Venom 2 post-credits have been the talk of the town as everyone is talking about just what it means for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In Venom 2, Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote save the day and retire to an island for some well deserved rest and relaxation. After we get the first set of credits, we get a post-credits scene where Eddie is on the bed watching television when Venom asks if Eddie wants to see into his symbiotic world. “Eighty billion lightyears of hive knowledge across universes would explode your tiny little brain,” he tells Eddie. Eddie is game. “Here’s just the smallest fraction of the things we symbiotes have experienced,” Venom continues.

That’s when the room starts to change and the lights flicker. A little surprising when Venom says, “What’s going on?” At this point it doesn’t appear to be the effects of Venom showing Eddie his world, but something altogether  different.

Things appear to return to normal only the room isn’t the room they were in before and as Eddie asks “What are we”, Venom confirms “It wasn’t me”, and we can hear non J. Jonah Jameson, played by J.K. Simmons, talking about a “shocking revelation” concerning Peter Parker being outed as Spider-Man.

Tom Holland’s face appears and just like that…Venom has joined the MCU.

What? How? What does this mean?

Already fans are running to the keyboards to guess with theories ranging from Marvel’s What if…? and Loki on Disney+ to the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Too soon to tell but I’m sure we’ll be sorting through clues for a while because Marvel seems to be set on dropping hints all over and this Phase looks to be the most intricate one yet.

No word (yet) on if Venom will appear in the already crowded No Way Home or if it will lead to something in the upcoming Morbius but it certainly appears if something big is coming. So, game changing? I’d say so.

Bottomline, Venom has opened the forbidden door again and business looks like it’s about to pick up. Many were wondering how Marvel was going to top Thanos and it looks like they’re playing the long game again, setting the stage for a much bigger story. We still have Eternals and don’t forget they haven’t even touched the Fantastic Four or X-Men.

What do you think about the Venom 2 post-credits and what they mean for the MCU?
