Jason Blum Would Love to Remake Friday the 13th, Would Have James Wan Shepherd It
Jason Blum has Friday the 13th on the top of his movie wishlist for Blumhouse, and would love to have James Wan take it on. Blum has worked with Wan many times with films like the Insidious franchise and M3GAN, and their Blumhouse and Atomic Monster companies merged at the start of the year. Blum spoke with Collider for a new interview and during the conversation, he named the iconic slasher franchise as the film he most wants to make.
“Friday the 13th is what I would do,” Blum said when asked which film he would greenlight right away if he could. “It’s not a Blumhouse project, but I’m trying to will it into being one. It’s just a piece of IP I’ve always loved.”
He added, “And James Wan and Atomic Monster are very passionate about it, and I think we would have them shepherd it for us. That would be a lot of fun.”
The Friday the 13th franchise was in a legal quagmire for years, though that appears to have cleared up a bit after Jason Miller won the rights back to the original film in 2021. A prequel TV series has been in the works from Peacock.and is expected to arrive sometime this year.
