John Cena & Idris Elba to Star in Amazon’s Head of State

The Suicide Squad co-stars John Cena and Idris Elba are teaming up again, starring in the new action film Head of State for Amazon. Deadline reports that Cena and Elba will star in the film, which is being described as similar to the high-octane action films of the 1990s with an “odd couple in a high-stakes situation.”

Cena and Elba co-starred in The Suicide Squad, with Cena playing Peacemaker and Elba playing Bloodsport. That DC film opens on August 6th, 2021, with Cena set to reprise his role in an HBO Max series. The two reportedly pitched the project to Amazon over Zoom along with writer Harrison Query and producers Peter Safran and John Rickard of The Safran Company. The pitch was said to be halted miday through because Amazon wanted to snag the project quickly before it could be pitched to other studios.
