John Goodman Praises Roseanne Barr for Giving Up Financial Stake to Allow The Conners Spinoff
Actor and Roseanne costar John Goodman appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week and talked about returning to do a new spinoff for the series, The Conners, after ABC’s revival for the show was cancelled earlier this year due to a racist tweet that was posted online by star Rosanne Barr. You can check out a video of Goodman’s appearance on the show below.
During his appearance, John Goodman complimented Barr for giving up her financial stake in Roseanne to allow the spinoff to be made after she was let go by ABC. He stated, “She gave up a lot for us to be able to do this show, and I can’t thank her enough.” He added, “[It was] very weird doing the first show without her, because she’s my buddy.”
The ABC spinoff is set to debut on October 16. It’s not yet clear how the show will address Barr’s absence. Here’s a synopsis for the new show:
In The Conners, after a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky and D.J. – grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor and perseverance, the family prevails.
