TMZ reports that Empire star Jussie Smollett declined additional security from the FOX network after going through a racist, homophobic attack. According to the report, sources indicate that security for the cast was increased after Fox Studios received a threatening, homophobic letter that was sent to Smollett.

Smollett reportedly did not want want to be hindered by an entourage of bodyguards during production for the hit TV series. The network wanted to increase security for everyone on the set and offered Jussie Smollett some additional protection around the clock. However, he declined the offer because he did not want to have additional security during his off-hours.

As previously noted, two caucasian males wearing ski masks reportedly attacked Jussie Smollett, put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him. As they left him, they reportedly screamed, “MAGA country.”

Smollett reportedly missed shooting on Tuesday of this week to recover from injuries he sustained during the attack. He reportedly plans to return to work soon, and the show is slated to move forward as planned. However, the shooting schedule is being altered to accommodate his recovery.

Police in Chicago are still investigating the crime. Additionally, the FBI is investigating the threatening letter that was sent to the production. The authorities are reportedly trying to determine if there’s a connection between the letter and the attack on Smollett.
