Kevin Smith Says He Asked Lea Thompson to Lend Her Voice for the Howard the Duck Animated Series
As previously reported, Clerks filmmaker Kevin Smith is set to write and executive produce a new Howard the Duck animated series for Hulu. Smith later revealed in an Instagram post this week that he wants actress Lea Thompson to voice a mystery role for the series. Thompson previously Beverly in the infamous 1986 film Howard the Duck, which was executive produced by none other than George Lucas.
Kevin Smith wrote on Thompson and the series, “I can’t spoil where we’re going, but I can tell you this: I already asked movie-Howard heroine [Lea Thompson] to lend us her vocal Quack Fu in a to-be-revealed-later role! And she did NOT say no!”
Lea Thompson has actually expressed interest on returning to Howard the Duck in the past. Last year, she spoke at at Fan Expo Canada (via Comic Book.com) about pitching a remake for Howard the Duck to Marvel Studios. While this isn’t a live-action return to the big screen for the feathered fowl and his girlfriend Bev, it’s probably the next best thing.
Smith is writing and producing the Howard the Duck animated series for Hulu alongside Dave Willis. Here’s an official synopsis:
“Trapped in a world he never made, America’s favorite fighting fowl Howard the Duck hopes to return home with the help of his unstoppable gal pal Beverly before the evil Dr. Bong can turn him the crispiest dish on the menu, in Marvel’s Howard the Duck.”
