Len Wiseman Set to Direct John Wick Spinoff Ballerina
The long-in-gestation John Wick spinoff Ballerina has a director in Len Wiseman. Deadline reports that Wiseman (Underworld, Live Free or Die Hard) is set to direct the film from a script by Shay Hatten (John Wick 3 – Parabellum, Army of the Dead). The site reports that Lionsgate is fast-tracking the film to get into production.
First reported back in 2017, Ballerina follows a young assassin who vows revenge against those that killed her family. There was a character named Ballerina in Parabellum, played by Unity Phelan, who is seen as part of the Director’s (Angelica Huston’s) Ruska Roma society that Wick once belonged to. However, it is not clear if Phelan will star in the new film or if the character will even come from The Director’s organization, though the latter at least would make the most sense within the context of the films.
Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski are producing the film, with Keanu Reeves and Sketch Films’ Kaley Smalley executive producing.
