Linda Hamilton Would Be ‘Happy to Never Return’ to Terminator Franchise
The Terminator franchise seems pretty dead in the water after the failure of Terminator: Dark Fate, and Linda Hamilton seems okay with that. Hamilton spoke with THR for a new interview and talked about the sci-fi action film, which saw her return to the franchise.
When asked about whether she’s optimistic about playing Sarah Connor again, Hamilton said, “No. Something says to me … I don’t know. I would really appreciate maybe a smaller version, where so many millions are not at stake. Today’s audience is just so unpredictable.”
She continued, “I can’t tell you how many laymen just go, ‘Well, people don’t go to the movies anymore.’ That’s not Hollywood analysis; that just comes out of almost everybody’s mouth. It should definitely not be such a high-risk financial venture, but I would be quite happy to never return. So no, I am not hopeful, because I would really love to be done. But if there were something new that really spoke to me, I am a logical person, and I will always consider viable changes.”
Dark Fate was was a bomb, with $250.9 million worldwide against a production budget of $190 million plus an expensive marketing campaign. The film reportedly needed to make $450 million-plus to break even, and studio losses are estimated at $130 million.
