Lionsgate In Talks To Develop The Blackening Sequel
A sequel to the horror comedy hit The Blackening is officially in the works. Variety reports that Lionsgate and MRC are in development on the sequel to the 2023 film and are in talks with Dewayne Perkins, Tracy Oliver and producer E. Brian Dobbins about a follow-up film.
Perkins and Oliver wrote the script for the comedy, which arrived in June and grossed $18.5 million against a $3 million budget. The film was been a hit with critics and fans, starring stars Antoinette Robertson, Perkins, Sinqua Walls, Grace Byers, X Mayo, Melvin Gregg, Jermaine Fowler, Yvonne Orji and Jay Pharoah.
The film is set on Juneteenth and follows a group of Black friends who head out to a cabin in the woods for a get-together, but find themselves targeted by a masked killer. No word on where the potential sequel may go.
