Mank, Minari Dominate 2021 Critics’ Choice Awards Nominations

The 2021 Critics’ Choice Awards nominations are out, with David Fincher’s Mank and Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari leading the pack. The Critics Choice Association announced the film nominees on Monday for the 26th annual award show and Mank, Fincher’s film about the making of Citizen Kane through the eyes of Herman J. Mankiewicz, earned 12 nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor for Gary Oldman, Best Supporting Actress for Amanda Seyfried, Best Director for David Fincher, Best Original Screenplay for Jack Fincher, and Best Cinematography for Erik Messerschmidt.

Meanwhile, Chung’s Minari scored 10 nominations. The drama about a Korean family trying to make their way in 1980s America scored nods for Best Picture, Best Actor for Steven Yeun, Best Supporting Actress for Yuh-Jung Youn, Best Young Actor/Actress for Alan Kim, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for Lee Isaac Chung, Best Original Screenplay for Lee Isaac Chung, Best Cinematography for Lachlan Milne, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Score for Emile Mosseri.

Among the other big nomination-getters were Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and News Of The World, which sored 8 and 7 nominations respectively. The late Chadwick Boseman is a double nominee, both for Best Actor in Ma Rainey and Best Supporting Actor For Spike Lee’s Netflix film Da 5 Bloods. Netflix set a record for the most Best Picture nominations from a studio in a single year with four: Ma Rainey, Da 5 Bloods, Mank, and Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7. Universal had two with News of the World and Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland, Amazon picked up two for Sound of Metal and One Night in Miami, while A24 (Minari) and Focus Features (Promising Young Woman each earned one Best Picture nod.

The 26th annual Critics Choice Awards will air on the CW on Sunday, March 7. The full list of nominees is below:
