Wolverine is already back in the Marvel Universe, but now his return is getting an official event series titled (no surprise) Return of Wolverine. Marvel announced the news on Tuesday, unveiling a five-issue event series from Charles Soule and Steve McNiven.

Soule has been a major factor in Wolverine’s place in the Marvel universe as of late, having written Death of Wolverine in 2014 and the current Hunt For Wolverine series that is chronicling the search by several Logan associates for the character after his body was discovered to be missing. Return of Wolverine will see Soule complete his trilogy by bringing Wolverine back into the greater Marvel continuity.

“Wolverine’s body has been missing. The entire Marvel Universe has been looking for him, because he’s a very important part of the Super Hero puzzle. And at long last, he will be found,” Soule told Marvel.com. “I thought this was a real opportunity to do things that would make him feel new and fresh in a way; if you come back from the dead, it should mean something. One of the outwardly physical manifestations of that is that now, from time to time, his claws —- once they’re popped —- they can heat up. They can get really hot.”

The Marvel announcement notes, “Following his death in 2014, the signature sound of popping claws went silent, and the hero’s body was interred for remembrance and respect. And then it went missing.

Immediately, the Super Heroes of the Marvel Universe convened, before separating into four teams hell-bent on unraveling the mystery of the disappearance. Starting with Hunt For Wolverine, and then in Adamantium Agenda, Claws of a Killer, Mystery in Madripoor, and Weapon Lost, the search began. And the shocking conclusion of this manhunt leaves Wolverine changed forever.”

“The four Hunt For Wolverine miniseries all follow different threads in pursuit of our pointy-fisted friend, and each comes to a conclusion with different pieces of the puzzle,” said X-Men editor Jordan D. White. “With Dead Ends, the players assemble to bring those puzzle together and see what they learned…but they might not like what they find.”

Return of Wolverine #1 goes on sale September 19th.
