Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley Returning For Scream 7
Scream 7 is adding a couple of former Ghostfaces to its cast in Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley. Deadline reports that Foley has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel, and has confirmed that Lillard is also returning after he posted a tease to his Instagram account that you can see below.
Lillard is an OG Ghostface, having played Stu Macher — one of the two killers — in the original Scream. Foley, meanwhile, played Roman Bridger in Scream 3, the director of the third Stab film who is revealed as the killer for that movie as well as Sidney Prescott’s half-brother.
It is not yet clear how either character will return, nor indeed if they will be playing the same characters although Lillard’s Instagram video certainly suggests he will be back as Stu. Stu’s fate seemed final at the end of the first film, though there have been hints dropped in 2022’s Scream and Scream VI that Stu could still be alive. In Roman’s case that seems far less likely as he was shot directly through the head by the now-deceased Dewey (David Arquette) at the end of his film.
The two join a cast that includes the returning Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as well as franchise newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale and Mark Consuelos. Original Scream writer Kevin Williamson is directing from a script by Busick with a Febrary 27th, 2026 release set.
