The next installment of the Mission: Impossible film franchise is right around the corner, and now it’s happening slightly earlier than expected. Paramount Pictures announced during the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon on Thursday (Aug. 27) that the release date of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has been moved up to Wednesday, July 12 from its previous date of Friday, July 14.

On top of the release date update, Paramount revealed a new trailer for the film that isn’t quite ready for release with some new footage. Along with the trailer, a 20-minute sequence from the film was shown. The sequence was taken from later in the film, showing Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the thief, Grace (Hayley Atwell), engaging in a daring chase across Rome, Italy, with the villainous operative portrayed by Pom Klementieff hot on their tails. The footage also revealed that the bad guys appear to be after some sort of mysterious key that Grace was attempting to steal and transport to Venice.

Also featured in the footage was Esai Morales, who poses as an Interpol agent to get into the embassy where Grace is being held at first. Morales’ character appears to have no conscience and remorse as he stabs the suspicious investigator who was interrogating Grace in the hand with what appeared to be a pen. Meanwhile, there is also Shea Whigham’s character, who is also in pursuit of Ethan Hunt and attempting to take him into custody. While Whigham’s character wants Hunt arrested, he did briefly assist him during the chase when Pom Klementieff’s character approached them on the streets and started opening fire with an assault rifle. We’ll have more on the footage that was screened at CinemaCon later.

The upcoming sequel is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, starring Cruise, Atwell, Whigham, Klementieff, Morales, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One arrives in theaters on July 12. Part Two is currently slated for a June 2024 release.
