Ghostface will be down one target for Scream 6, as Neve Campbell won’t return due to disagreements over her contract for the film. Campbell, who has played Sidney Prescott in the first five films, has confirmed in a statement to Deadline that she won’t be appearing in the upcoming film due to disagreements with Paramount and Spyglass Media over the value of her contract,

“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,” Campbell said in a statement. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

Campbell has been the lead actor for the whole of the franchise. She most recently played the role in 2022’s Scream, which grossed $140 million worldwide. The new film will again be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a script by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and Hayden Panettiere are all reprising their roles from the previous film and (in Panettiere’s case) Scream 4, with Dermot Mulroney signed on to play a police officer.

The new film is set to release on March 31st, 2023.
