Director Nia DaCosta Fights Superhero Fatigue By Shifting Tone

Speaking with Total Film recently, The Marvels director Nia DaCosta shared her thoughts on how to make another superhero movie stand out from the overcrowded genre. “I think superhero fatigue absolutely exists,” DaCosta stated, acknowledging a criticism that has been heard with increasing frequency since the MCU launched with Iron Man fifteen years ago. DaCosta explained that she took an alternate angle to try and set her upcoming film apart from the now-standard cinematic fare. “The biggest difference from the other MCU movies to date is that it’s really wacky, and silly. The worlds we go to in this movie are worlds unlike others you’ve seen in the MCU. Bright worlds that you haven’t seen before.”

Audiences will have a chance to see if the tonal shift for The Marvels is enough to feel new and fresh when the film premieres in theaters on November 10.
