Paul Wernick Releases Patrick Swayze Cameo Pages From Original Zombieland Script
Zombieland was originally intended to feature a Patrick Swayze cameo, and co-writer Paul Wernick has released the pages of that scene online. Wernick, who co-wrote the film with Rhett Reese, posted the pages to Twitter as you can see below.
Swayze was the first choice for the team’s celebrity cameo, but Wernick noted on Twitter that before they were able to offer it to him, Swayze was diagnosed with cancer. He added that they wrote “a dozen or so” alternate celebrity cameo scenes including The Rock, Kevin Bacon, Mark Hamill, Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Joe Pesci, and Matthew McConaughey. Murray eventually became the cameo in question.
Wernick and Reese will be releasing the cameo scenes over the next several days; you can see the Swayze pages below. As Wernick notes, the main characters’ names were changed, so keep that in mind.
