Rian Johnson Denies Rumor He Is No Longer Developing New Star Wars Trilogy

February 14, 2019 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

Way back in November 2017 before the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Lucasfilm announced that Rian Johnson would create a new trilogy based on the Star Wars franchise, and he would write and direct the first installment. Earlier this week, a rumor popped up online, originated at the website Super Bro movies, stating that “according to multiple sources,” Johnson was no longer developing the trilogy and has moved on to other projects. Johnson later took to his Twitter account and stated that the rumors were false.

Johnson wrote on Twitter, “No it isn’t true, I’m still working on the trilogy. With all due respect to the movie bros, who I’m sure are lovely kind bros with good fraternal intentions,” which you can see below.

As of today, the Super Bro Movies story that was published yesterday (Feb. 13) has since been deleted. After deleting the story, Super Bro Movies released a statement on the article on Twitter, which you can see below. The website apologized for the false rumor, and Johnson appeared to take it well. He wrote in response, “No harm no foul at all guys, thanks. I think the rumor game makes fandom funner.”

So as of now, it appears Johnson is still working on his new planned trilogy for the franchise. The new series of films are going to take place separately from the episodic Skywalker saga and feature new characters from a corner of the mythology that has never been explored before. The films do not yet have any target release dates.

Filmmaker Rian Johnson is currently working on his new murder-mystery film, Knives Out. It’s set to release on November 27.
