It’s official: Rob Zombie is making a film reboot of The Munsters. The rocker/filmmaker took to Instagram on Monday to confirm the rumor that he’s set to make a reboot of the classic 1960s monster comedy, writing:

Attention Boils and Ghouls! The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! THE MUNSTERS! Stay tuned for exciting details as things progress!”

Zombie had been rumored for the Munsters reboot for several months, but it had yet to be confirmed until now. The Munsters originally aired from 1965 to 1966 on NBC and starred Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo and Herman and Lily Munster, a Frankenstein’s monster and vampire married couple with a wholesome family of monsters. The family included Lily’s vampire father Grandpa (Al Lewis), young werewolf Eddie (Butch Patrick), and “normal” teenager Marilyn (played by Beverley Owen and then Pat Priest).

While the series didn’t last long, it became a cult favorite like The Addams Family and did huge syndication numbers after its cancellation, making it a valuable property. It inspired a late 1980s sequel series The Munsters Today and several films, as well as an NBC pilot from Bryan Fuller in 2012 called Mockingbird Lane that was aired on TV as a Halloween special, but wasn’t picked up to series.

The original rumor suggested castings like Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster and Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, but that information has not been confirmed and Zombie did not offer casting details.
