Robert Pattinson is set to play the titular role in The Batman, but he admits he was afraid he would lose out on the role when early word of it leaked out. Pattinson was reported to be in talks to play the role back in May of last year, before Warner Bros. had signed off on him. In a new interview, Pattinson said he was really excited about the role and was panicked that the reaction online would hurt his chances.

“I hadn’t even done the audition,” Pattinson told Time Out. “It’s just nerve-wracking because I was really excited about it and you think: really, is this how I’m going to lose this role? It’s the most annoying circumstances to lose something.”

He added that the rumors led to him being swamped with questions at the premiere of The Lighthouse, saying, “Everyone was like: ‘Is that true, is that true?,’ And it wasn’t true at the time, I hadn’t got the job. It was pretty terrifying.”

Pattinson added that he doesn’t worry about people’s reactions now that he has the role, saying, “I’m only worried about if people like it when it’s done. Right now, people can think what they want.”
