Simon Kinberg Reportedly Signs on to Direct Logan’s Run Remake
Deadline.com reports that Warner Bros. has signed a deal that could finally see the production of the long-in-development remake of Logan’s Run. The newest iteration of the project would be written by Peter Craig (The Hunger Games) and directed by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Dark Phoenix).
The film has been in the works for years. Multiple drafts have been written, and many filmmakers have been attached. However, the remake has yet to get off the ground. The original film was released in 1976 and based on the novel by William F. Noland and George Clayton Johnson. The original film starred Michael York and Farrah Fawcett and produced by MGM. It was also adapted into a TV series in 1977 starring Gregory harrison and Heather Menzies.
Logan’s Run is set in a dystopic future where the population and consumption of resources are maintained by killing people when they reach the age of 30. Logan 5 is a “Sandman” killer who reaches his expiration date and runs off with Jessica, and they have to face death from another Sandman.
The new report suggests that the upcoming remake could potentially feature a female lead instead of a male. Kinberg’s upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix film is due out later this November.
