Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Beverly Hills Cop & More Added To National Film Registry

The Library of Congress has announced the 2024 additions to the National Film Registry including The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Beverly Hills Cop and others. The Library announced the 25 additions selected for preservation this year on Wednesday. The Registry preserves up to 25 films each year that have are “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” and showcase the range and diversity of American film heritage.

This year’s films range in dates from 1895 (Annabelle Serpentine Dance) to 2010 (The Social Network). Among the other films selected include Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho, The Coen Brothers’ No Country For Old Men, and Bill Gunn’s 1973 Black vampire film Ganja and Hess.

The new additions bring the total list up to 900. Movies must be at least 10 years old to be eligible and are chosen by Librarian of Conrgess Carla Hayden, with consultation from members of the National Film Preservation Board and other specialists. You can see the full list of additions below:
