After some delays, Ben Wheatley’s sequel to the Jason Statham shark hit The Meg will begin filming later this month. KFTV reports that the film – titled Meg 2: The Trench — will begin production next week in the UK at Warner Bro. Studios, Leavesden.

Filming is expected to run until late May on the sequel, which will see Wheatley (Kill List, A Field in England) directing and Statham returning as Jonas Taylor. Statham is reportedly more involved on a creative level in the sequel.

The Meg, based on the Steve Alten novels, was directed by Jon Turteltaub. It was released in 2018 and became a surprise hit, grossing $145.4 million domestically and $530.2 million worldwide against a $130 million budget. The film centered on group of scientists who encounters a 75-foot-long megalodon while on a rescue mission on the floor of the Pacific Ocean.

No release date is currently set for the sequel.
