The saga of The New Mutants’ long-delayed journey to the screen due to reshoots may end with those reshoots not having taken place at all. The X-Men franchise film, as you may recall, was originally supposed to release in April of 2018 but was pushed back due to Fox wanting to do reshoots in order to punch up the horror aspects of the film. Those reshoots, in turn, were continually delayed due to scheduling difficulties with the cast, with Simon Kinberg — a producer for the X-Men franchise and the writer/director of Dark Phoenix — reportedly set to do those reshoots.

That seems to no longer be the case. Josh Boone, who wrote and directed the film, confirmed on Instagram that the film would be his original version of the film, telling a fan that “I wouldn’t be promoting it here if it wasn’t.”

Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix was, of course, a massive disappointment and money loser for Fox (and thus Disney) when it was released last year. Whether that has any impact on the decision not to do the reshoots, or if the now Disney-owned Fox is just happy with Boone’s version, is not clear. A new trailer for the film is set to arrive on Monday for an April 3rd release date.
