Tom Holland Recalls Pitching Spider-Man in Venom During Sony/Marvel Feud
Tom Holland recently looked back at the (temporary) split between Sony and Marvel that nearly pulled him out of the MCU, and how he talked over potential pitches during that time. Speaking with Empire for a new interview, Holland discussed the infamous split between the two parties following Spider-Man: Far From Home and how he spoke with Sony’s Amy Pascal about where to take the character if the split with Marvel became permanent.
“On the day that the announcement happened that I would no longer be in the MCU… I just drove over to Amy Pascal’s house and sat with her by her pool, and we sat there for hours, just chatting, and pitching movies,” Holland said (per ComicBook.com). “How would we do a film without Marvel? Does Peter Parker fall through a portal, and then he’s in the Venom world? Or do we do a Kraven the Hunter film?”
He continued, “It was a nice distraction… because as a young kid I was so in love with Marvel, and I was so lucky to be a part of it that when they took the rug from under my feet, I was not ready to say goodbye yet.”
Of course, that didn’t end up being necessary as Sony and Marvel came to a new agreement that led to Spider-Man staying in the MCU.
Sony looks to be bringing at least some aspects of the Sony Spider-Man Universe into the MCU and has a host of projects coming up including Morbius and a Kraven the Hunter film. Morbius is set to release on January 28th, 2022.
