Tony Todd says that the new Candyman will have some real crowd-pleasing moments, and he may be in some of them. Todd spoke with Sofa King Cool at Nickel City Con and while he didn’t outright say it, he strongly implied that he would be appearing in the film.

Asked if he’s going to be in the film, Todd said, “Well, let’s put it this way. I was in South Africa two months ago, shooting a film called Bulletproof 2, and I was a little concerned because of all of this chatter [surrounding the new film]. And out of the blue, I got a phone call from Jordan Peele. and we’re still waiting for the contract, but the way he explained it to me was that it’s gonna be ‘applause worthy moments.’ That’s his words.”

He continued on, saying that even if he doesn’t end up in the reboot, “It’s flattering. No matter what happens with that, it’s gonna just put renewed attention on the original.”

The new film is directed by Nia DaCosta from a script by Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld. Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Teyonah Parris are starring in the film, which will returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood. It’s set to release on June 12th, 2020.
