USA Network has given Shooter the axe. The Ryan Phillippe drama was canceled by the network on Wednesday according to Variety. The shot is currently airing its third season on USA and has five episodes left to go.

The show started off fairly well for the network and averaged a 0.48, holding onto its series premiere 0.5 very well. The second season was down to a weaker but still okay 0.35, but it lost nearly half its season two audience and has averaged a 0.19 in season three.

Based on the book series by Stephen Hunter, Shooter starred Phillippe as highly-decorated Marine Corps sniper Bob Lee Swagger, a man who was pulled back into the fray when his former commanding officer Isaac Johnson (played by ER‘s Omar Epps) asked for his assistance in preventing an assassination plot against the President of the United States. But when Swagger realized the truth — that he’d been set up to take the fall for another murder — he set out on a new mission to clear his name and keep his family safe.
