King of Trios 2014 Semi-Final Round

Icarus goes for the CHIKARA Special but Volgar shoves him away. Throbacks give him the 3D. Icarus puts Volgar in the CHIKARA Special. He taps out at 9:01. This was a hot way to kick off the show. I think this was probably everyone’s expectation to be the Finals, but I think it was better served on the card here. Everyone worked hard, the right person took the fall, the right team won, and the action was quite good. **¾
The Lithuanian Snow Troll pleads with the Golden Trio after the match. Icarus let’s him go, only for the Troll to low blow him! Jacobs and Kingston attack the Throwbacks. Volgar jumps back in too. Jacobs notices the Grand Championship laying on the mat. He tells Kingston to wait. Kingston powerbombs Angelosetti. Jacobs ties up the Troll again and pats him on the head. Kingston looks to Jacobs to make sure he’s still holding onto his promise of getting him the Grand Championship. Jacobs reassures him. The Flood then leave through the back.
King of Trios 2014 Semi-Final Round
3Peck0 (Archibald Peck & 3.0 (Scott ‘Jagged’ Parker & Shane Matthews)) vs. The Devastation Corporation (Max Smashmaster, Blaster McMassive & Flex Rumblecrunch)
Sidney Bakabella is in the Dev Corp’s corner. Peck and 3.0 are wearing face paint as well! Jagged throws forearms at all three Corporation members. This leads to all of them stomping on Jagged. Matthews and Peck try evening the odds but get tossed to the floor. With nobody to tag, the Corporation are able to beat down Jagged for a period of time. Smashmaster counters with a backbreaker. Rumblecrunch then comes off the second rope with an elbow drop, Demolition style. Matthews kicks out. 3.0 assist Peck with an electric chair drop on Rumblecrunch. McMassive saves his partner from being pinned. A three person Sweet Taste of Professionalism on McMassive does not get them the win. Matthews puts him in the Boston Crab. Jagged and Peck but the other Dev Corp members in Boston Crabs too! Bakabella pulls Bryce Remsburg out of the ring. Matthews chases Bakabella into the ring. The Corporation attack before 3Peck0 can do some damage. Jagged eats the Death Blow for the pin at 11:05. Coming out of the weekend, 3Peck0 may have impressed me most. Their three personalities and wrestling styles work so well together. They did an awesome job stacking up against the giant Devastation Corporation who also did well in their role in this match. Fun stuff. ***
Oliver Grimsly tells Mark Andrews that he is what his parents warned him about as a kid. He says soon he will figure out that he is his worst nightmare.

Andrews enzuigiri’s him in the corner. Grimsly drives his knees into his chest in the opposite corner. Andrews tosses Grimsly off the second rope. He hits a shooting star press for the win at 7:03. Andrews was certainly impressive in his trios outings this weekend so it was nice to see him get a chance to shine as a singles competitor. I’d like to see him back for the Young Lions Cup, or just other events in general. **
Sidney Bakabella is with Jaka and Oleg the Usurper. Bakabella says nobody can stop his team from walking out of the Tag Gauntlet the victors.

He gives Oleg a back cracker and comes off the top with double knees. The Osirian Sacrament has Oleg cooked, but Barber is still out. Bryce Remsburg runs in from commentary to count but Jaka kicks out at two. Bryce helps Barber out of the ring. While he’s doing that, Bakabella hits Ophidian with a sock full of quarters. Oleg covers him and gets the pin at 46:01.
What a lame finish, especially in a match that goes that long. The story of the Portal fighting through five teams and beating Bakabella’s men despite exhaustion would have been much more satisfying than what they did. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see the Portal vs. The Throwbacks? Not to mention that Bakabella’s men look having to cheat against a team that was tired so exhausted from competing. I liked most of the wrestling, really enjoyed the Ice Creams/Old Fashioned match, and thought N_R_G looked promising, but the finish really left a sour taste in my mouth. **½
The Gentleman’s Club are in the back having difficulty getting a good promo for Jagged. They eventually end with a lame “we’re gonna get ya” which Jagged says is definitely the promo to go with.
The Submission Squad (Pierre Abernathy, Evan Gelestico, Davey Vega & Gary the Barn Owl) vs. The Gentleman’s Club (Chuck Taylor, Orange Cassidy, Drew Gulak & The Swamp Monster)
Taylor shoulder tackles Abernathy to the floor. Cassidy and Gelestico tag in. Cassidy lazily rolls around to evade Gelestico’s offense. They block each others’ hip toss attempts. Gelestico airplane spins Cassidy. Cassidy is in real danger of puking. He and Gelestico knock heads and fall down. Vega and Gulak pick up the pace. They get in a pinfall exchange, ending with Gulak headbutting Vega in the stomach. Vega counters a suplex with a small package, leading to both men rolling around. Meanwhile, Gary is perched on the Swamp Monster. A series of submissions is created by the other six participants. Gary dives onto all of them, then back into the Swamp Monster’s arms. Taylor makes him put Gary down. Taylor pulls out a grenade and drops it in Vega’s gear. Vega stops time causing everyone to freeze. After giving a short speech to the crowd (quoting “The Young Ones”), time unfreezes and Taylor explodes the grenade with a Manhattan Drop. Vega is beaten down by the Gentleman’s Club. He manages to escape when Taylor misses a Swanton. Gary and the Swamp Monster tag in. They end up high fiving and chest bumping, then clotheslining their own partners. They almost clothesline Bryce, who comes back and clotheslines them both! He gets a two count on them both. Gary eats offense from the Gentleman’s Club and Bryce in the corner. Monster misses a cartwheel splash. The Submission Squad and Bryce all attack him (except for Gary). All the participants pose together in the ring, as does Gavin Loudspeaker. The Gentleman’s Club then clear the ring of everyone but Vega. Taylor gives him the Sole Food. Gulak comes off the top with a clothesline. Cassidy lazily hits a diving headbutt and Abernathy breaks the pin. He blocks the Swamp Monster’s kick and gives him a stunner. Gelestico hits the Rock Bottom. Vega follows with a Hogan legdrop. Gary hits a Warrior Splash for the pin at 12:02. That was an absolute blast, very reminiscent of the comedy Atomicos match from last year. Getting a match like this on a weekend that’s generally been on the heavier side was a nice breath of fresh air. ***½
Shynron says tonight is special for him. He believes with the Chikarmy’s help, he will be the next Rey de Voladores. He knows all about the Great Sanada; his history and what he brings in the ring. Shynron says he’s had a lot of turmoil this past year, but all that culminates with him becoming the king of high flying this weekend.
Rey de Voladores 2014 Finals

However, Shynron is able to come back with a back handspring Pele kick. Sanada spits red mist into Shynron’s face behind Barber’s back! He hits a superkick, but Shynron is still able to kick out! Sanada misses a moonsault. Shynron drops him back with a 360 neckbreaker for two. Shynron hits the second rope 630 splash for the pin at 10:56. After all the awesome stuff he did this weekend, Shynron truly is the king of the high-fliers. I think he’s been criminally underutilized since the CHIKARA relaunch and I hope this tournament win signifies that changing. Sanada did a fine job in his role, and I like the callback from his win the previous evening. **¾

The Throwbacks hit Prime Time on McMassive. Rumblecrunch makes the save. He boots Angelosetti as he hops off the second rope. He give Hatfield a TKO. Hatfield then takes the Death Blow for the pin at 15:12. I love the Devastation Corporation winning with the same move in every round. I also love that they ended up winning cleanly and that Bakabella’s interference was only teased. I want to give the Golden Trio huge props for being fantastic all weekend long. I truly feel the Throwbacks are one of the most underrated tag teams in all of wrestling and that Icarus has really come into his own with his new character. The crowd ate up this match, everyone played their role perfectly, and it was a great way to cap off the weekend. ***½
Sidney Bakabella grabs the trios medals from Mike Quackenbush and places them on his men’s necks. Jaka and Oleg the Usurper come out to join their fellow Wrecking Crew members in the celebration. Jimmy Jacobs then makes his way out with the Lithuanian Snow Troll on a chain. The rest of the Flood joins as well. Out come members of the CHIKARA roster and an all out brawl ensues. Eddie Kingston is standing on the stage while Icarus recovers in the ring by himself. Kingston pulls Mantis into the ring and gives him the Backfist to the Future. Jacobs grabs a microphone. He tells Icarus it’s over. He and his army have been defeated all thanks to Eddie Kingston. Jacobs says Icarus can hand over the title and they will leave in peace, or they can fight him for it and the Flood will end what’s left of CHIKARA. Icarus hands it over to Kingston who is overjoyed to have it in his hands. As he and Jacobs are about to leave Icarus gets the microphone. He says no matter who is Grand Champion, the belt is worthless without CHIKARA. He tells Kingston that he fought for his life to get the belt but there’s always something bigger. He wants to know if Kingston will be worthy of the title or simply the king of actions. Jacobs tries hustling Kingston away. He looks at the belt, hands it back to Icarus, then begins punching Jacobs! The brawl picks back up and Kingston dives onto a group of people. The Flood ends up retreating through the back door. Kingston tells Icarus to keep the belt warm. The ring then fills with CHIKARA roster members to celebrate their victory as the show concludes.
