Hello Folx! We are at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas, for AAA Ola de Calor! It’s been a few weeks since I posted (check out my last Great Eight for information on why). And I did say I would still be here for previews. So, here I am for the AAA/NXT Double Shot!

Tonight’s card is pretty stacked, and it looks like a great day of action! So, let’s get into it! The monster El Carnicero will be taking on a mystery opponent! We have a gauntlet to determine the number one contender to the Flammer’s Reina de Reinas Championship! Los Americanos look to win their first gold when they take on The Ware Raiders for the AAA World Tag Team Championships!

Mini Vikingo, Nathan Frazier, and Jack Carthweel battle it out for a shot at Rey Fenix’s AAA World Cruiserweight Championship at Triplemanía 34! La Parka, El Fiscal, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., and Damien Priest will go at it for the vacant AAA Latin American Championship.

And in a Trios match, Los Perros del Mal take on Dragon Lee and The Lucha Brothers!

It’s always hard to give much of a preview for these mystery opponent matches. At least El Carnicero has a bit of a storyline going on with Psycho Clown, so I can imagine the mystery opponent being someone from the Psycho Circus. And unless it is Psycho Clown himself, then the match will probably be a bit of a squash to establish Carnicero further.

Winner: El Cernicero

And another match with no names announced (as of this writing). If you’ve read any of my AAA previews, you know I don’t like Flammer, and I can’t believe they still have the belt on her. I just have not been impressed by anything she has done, and it’s long past time for a change. With that said, it’s La Catalina’s time. So, I’m calling the match for her, and for a new champion at Triplemanía.

Winner: La Catalina

Mini Vikingo vs Nathan Frazer vs Jack Cartwheel

I love using these smaller shows to set up number one contenders. It is an easy and effective way to get wrestlers on a card. All three of these guys are insanely talented and deserve a shot. I could see Mini Vikingo turning rudo soon; it’s just a question of when. Frazer & Axiom aren’t being given much to do on SmackDown, so I’m glad to see Frazer here.

Rey being the Cruiserweight Champion has also opened up some opportunities for lesser-used guys on SmackDown. I honestly wouldn’t be upset if Tozawa got a shot. Cartwheel has impressed me every time I see him, and I think he has a great future ahead of him.

I am leaning towards Mini Vikingo here, and then a rudo turn at Triplemanía, but my only problem with that is I don’t see Rey losing the belt yet. So, I am going to pivot and say Cartwheel takes the win here. We will still get a rudo turn for Mini Vikingo it just won’t lead directly to him winning the Cruiserweight Championship

Winner: Jack Cartwheel

AAA World Tag Team Championships
Los Americanos (Bravo & Rayo) vs. War Raiders (Erik & Ivar)

If Los Americanos win, I’m guessing they replace the War Raiders with R-Truth and Damian Priest in a couple of weeks. It just felt odd that they announced the match before this one. I think it’s beyond time for Bravo and Rayo to get some gold. And then if El Grande Americano wins the Mega Championship, we get that awesome visual of a stable decked out.

Between the War Raiders’ hard-hitting style and Los Americanos’ British…I mean Lucha Strong Style, this should be a great match. I’m actually looking forward to this one the most, from an in-ring standpoint. With the War Raiders having their next defense already scheduled, it seems like this one is a foregone conclusion. But I’m going to call it a swerve: Los Americanos take the win and will defend against Truth & Priest.

Fatal Four-Way for the AAA Latin American Championship
El Fiscal vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs La Parka vs Damien Priest

Priest is replacing the suspended Omos in this match, and that probably ups the in-ring quality quite a bit. El Fiscal has been the biggest surprise of this whole thing. He has been putting on solid matches and looks to be a future star. La Parka has been getting a solid push going back to last year. And El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is the last champion before Vikingo.

This has all the makings of a great match, and I’m looking forward to seeing a mix of high-flying, hard strikes, and some big power moves. In the end, I am leaning towards La Parka. As I said, they have been pushing him since last year, and he has had some WWE exposure as well. Priest would be an interesting choice as well. He would bring a lot of eyes to the product. And he could defend the title on SmackDown as well.

Dr. Wagner Jr. needs to be put in the Mega Championship division, and Fiscal will be able to be a strong opponent to whoever wins. While I would love to see Parka win, I think Priest will win. He is primed to turn on Truth, and a singles title will give him something to do while he is established as a heel.

Winner and new AAA Latin American Champion: Damien Priest

Trios Match
Los Perros del Mal (Daga, Ángel, and Berto) vs. The Lucha Brothers (Penta & Rey Fénix) and Dragon Lee

I’m torn on this. Do you send the fans home happy? Or do you push the new rudo stable hard? If it’s me, Los Perros del Mal need to get the win here. It doesn’t have to be clean. But they need a big win to show they are a threat. And Penta, Rey, and Lee can all easily recover from losses. Daga might be established with the AAA fans, but this double-shot is a higher-profile chance to establish him with the WWE fans as well.

The group has Karmen Petrovic and Damián 666 to help them steal a win. A win over big names will set the group up for title shots up and down the card. Ángel and Berto can go after Los Americanos for the World Tag Team Championships or go after the World Cruiserweight and Latin American Championships. In fact, if one of them gets the pin on Rey, then they can use that for a future title shot.

And a big win also sets Daga up as a main event threat to El Grande Americano or Dominik Mysterio. Penta and Dragon Lee are doing their own things on Raw, and Rey needs more challengers. So, at the end of the day, a Los Perros del Mal win just makes the most sense.

Winners: Los Perros del Mal
