There have been a lot of speculations about AEW’s broadcasting future amid the merger of its broadcast partner, Warner Bros. Discovery, with Paramount.
As previously reported, Paramount outbid Netflix earlier this year to acquire WBD. The $111 billion deal received a stamp of approval from the US Justice Department earlier this year. The merger is expected to close by the third quarter.
In the latest issue of Fightful Select’s Q&A session, a fan asked Sean Ross Sapp about the possibility of AEW having its TV specials broadcast on CBS. Ross said that it’s certainly possible, though he admitted that it’s all speculation at this point, and no one knows how television, cable, and streaming would look a year or two from now.
Sapp also touched upon rumors about WBD having a minority stake in AEW. He said that if the rumors are true and it carries over to Paramount, then the company would be more interested in AEW programming than otherwise.
Meanwhile, AEW boss Tony Khan is optimistic about the ongoing merger, and he expects Paramount to stick with his company.
