On the latest episode of The ARN Show, Arn Anderson discussed the landscape-changing arrival of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash in WCW in June 1996. Anderson revealed that the angle was a closely guarded secret when asked if he personally knew that Nash was coming in.
He also explained why he prefers not to know about major surprises in the wrestling business, comparing it to watching a magic show. You can check out some highlights below:
On Not Knowing About Nash’s Debut:
“Every piece of this story was kept from everybody. Only ones that knew were that inner circle, and none of us knew. They did a good job of kayfabing.”
On Not Liking Spoilers:
“I don’t want to be told everything that’s going on. If somebody’s got something that’s really cool, whether it’s a move or promo or any aspect of the business. If it’s something really good, I like to be surprised with it. I don’t want to know everything going in advance…
“Would you go to a magic show, watch David Copperfield — would you want to know where he puts the dove underneath there and goes where the dove went? ‘Oh, wait a minute here, I’ll show you where it is.’ You lose me. I don’t want to know how you did it. That’s what makes you special.”
On Kevin Nash Powerbombing Eric Bischoff Off the Stage:
“It’s like you saw something that you weren’t supposed to see. Something went south. ‘I don’t know if that was supposed to happen or not.’ Because remember, Bischoff was still just an announcer. He didn’t have any power. Nobody knew he was running the show. So it would be just like if you smacked Tony Schiavone or somebody. They had no idea where that was going to lead.”
